We love awards season – and this year’s Golden Globes certainly didn’t disappoint in the nominations, the awards (let’s be honest though, we love JLaw as much as the next person, but did she really deserve to beat Meryl and Julia Roberts?) or the fashions. We especially loved to see a new generation, figuratively and literally, of pearl-wearers that further proved the point that pearls no longer belong in your grandma’s closet. Here are just a few of the stars that illustrate our point.
- Zooey Deschanel, our favorite “New Girl,” stunned in a gown fit for a princess, that was whimsical enough to look like it could have been sold on etsy and luxurious enough to earn her one of the best-dressed awards for the night. Everything was covered in pearls, from the floating embroidered ones delicately lying on her gown to her crocheted shoes, earrings, and ring.
- Kristen Connolly’s pearl earrings were dainty and ethereal opposite her fire engine red, lingerie inspired dress. She opted for an illusion earring, which made it seem like the pearls were floating above her collarbone.
- Emma Watson made a gutsy wardrobe choice on the red carpet, with a completely backless gown with leggings worn underneath, making her look black tie from the front and punk-rock in the back. She completed her look with a fearless pearl earring, which she only wore in one ear. Pearls and punk rock are definitely in love when worn by our girl Emma.
- Rashida Jones’ pearl earrings were certainly nontraditional, and went along with her brave choice of wearing a white, Hawaiian style gown at an awards ceremony in January.
