Yes, chambray (AKA denim) shirts are useful in all seasons, but they are especially perfect in the spring and fall. Easy to take on and off, they add a stylish layer that provides both a fashion boost as well as light protection from chillier weather/office spaces.
If you don’t already have at least one in your closet, this is definitely an item worth investing in (we recommend light denim for spring). Here’s why:
Chambray and Denim
Choose a dark or bright-colored pair of jeans, and tuck in your chambray shirt. Add a thin belt, stylish bag and pumps or heeled sandals to keep your look polished and not too Western.
Chambray and Patterns
We love, love, looooove chambray and polka dots or stripes. Add a pop of color with some red lipstick, and some class with pearl stud earrings to complete your look. Keep your shoes and other accessories a bit more subtle- you don’t want to overdo it.
Chambray and Dresses
Add an interesting and warm-ish twist to a classic outfit by wearing a chambray shirt open over a dress instead of a cardigan. We like this look with delicately patterned dresses and a thin belt cinched across the waist to balance out the styles and really suit the season. Ankle booties, riding boots or ballet flats all look great with this, as do bangles or hoop earrings.
Chambray and White
If you like adding accessories to a blank canvas, a wonderful canvas to work with is a tailored chambray shirt paired with white jeans. Add some focal points with patterned ballet flats (think animal prints or florals), statement jewelry and a great pair of sunglasses.
Tied Up
Another super springy look is the chambray shirt knotted over a dress or skirt. This look works well over strapless dresses, solid colored bodycons, or maxi dresses with a slit up one side. Add a hat, a long necklace and sunglasses and you’ll eliminate all fashion competition with barely any effort whatsoever!
Do you love your chambray shirt? We’re sure you do!
Until next time,
