Snow days are often best spend at home sipping hot cocoa in our PJs, but sometimes we’re forced to venture outdoors despite the cold, wet slush. On days like these it’s hard to know what to wear; we want to look presentable (some may even aim for stylish) but we also want to stay as warm and as dry as possible. Believe it or not, the stars struggle with this very same problem, and who better to show us how to dress than someone with a personal stylist? Here are some ideas for you inspired by celeb snow day outfits.
Patterns and solids. Chanel Iman took layering to a whole new level by pairing a checkered flannel shirt with some cozy, warm patterned pants, and tied them together with a solid black Oakley jacket and trendy riding boots. Try this look yourself, but make sure to keep all accessories, scarves, hats and gloves one neutral color so as not to overwhelm the eye.
Puffer jackets. If you live on the East Coast, you probably own one of these. Exceedingly warm, puffer jackets are the perfect layer for snow days. Sarah Jessica Parker wears hers all the time, often pairing it with heavy-duty jeans and sneakers or boots. Simple and practical, this is definitely a look you should emulate.
Cozy layers. If bulkier coats aren’t your style, you can fight the cold by strategically choosing other, thinner layering options. Elle Macpherson, for example, chose to wear a warm flannel shirt under a thick knitted seasonal sweater with leggings and snow boots. Add a tight tank top, a long sleeved undershirt and another pair of leggings or dark jeans to add warmth without much extra bulk, and throw on a furry hat and sunglasses to really complete the look.
Casual chic. Get inspired by Jessica Alba’s classy NY style. Layer a white duffel or trench coat over a thick, asymetrical sweater and add a trapper hat, a great pair of leather riding boots and some earrings for a classic winter look.
Colorful accents. Keep things monochrome like Miranda Kerr by wearing dark leggings or jeans, knee-high boots, a black turtleneck, sunglasses and a dark charcoal coat, then add a pop of color for effect. Kerr used a bright lipstick, but you can add a colorful scarf, hat or even necklace or ring to make your statement.
