The holidays, the lights, the snow… Is there anything more romantic than this gorgeous season? The only thing we can think of is a winter wedding! Sure, it’s a schlep to go, but once you’re there, the ambience more than makes up for the chill. Winter colors are so rich and luxurious, and the cold outside kind of gives the whole event a bit of intimate charm. Still… We know where the struggle lies. In the clothes! What do you wear to a winter wedding?! As always, we’ve got you covered- pun intended!
The first thing to consider is that most halls will be heated, and may get pretty warm once the party gets going. During the ceremony is when you’ll probably need some extra layers, and we totally recommend shawls and wraps. A beautifully textured pashmina will go a long way in keeping you warm AND upping your look, since the drapey, cozy style is both elegant and perfect for winter.
If you want to brave the cold, go for it, but a good pair of black tights will hold the chill at bay without sacrificing style. Look for a pair that’s sheer or at least semi-sheer, and pair them with basically any shoes- heels, flats or boots! Keep in mind that they tend to be a bit slippery, so if your shoes aren’t snug, you may want to use a rubber insert to keep your feet firmly in place for dancing.
Another great option that looks and feels amazing is the maxi dress. A fuller skirt will keep you warm while allowing you plenty of breathing room for dancing. Maxi dresses are slimming and will make you look taller- two major bonuses! For winter, look for something in a deep, darker color like plum, emerald green or wine, and in a thicker material like velvet. Skirts with added volume would also work well with a wrap or drapey cardigan if you get cold.
Pearls! These gems are perfect for a winter wedding, contrasting beautifully with the season’s dark colors. Wear a strand around your neck for drama, as earrings to brighten up your face, or even in your hair!
